“Laudato Si”

LAUDATO SI” ACTION PLATFORM.

The parish was enrolled in the Laudato Si Action Platform on 22nd May 2022 after discussion at Parish Council as a commitment to a sustainable environment in our ministries and pastoral planning.

The Parish of South Yarra collaborates with our sister organisation SJOS (Saint Joseph’s Outreach Services) to provide shelter and nutritious food to the vulnerable in our community  through our transitional housing, garden and food store, in a way that is sustainable and respectful of the dignity of the disadvantaged in our area.

  • Leases a disused convent building to an organisation providing long-term accommodation for adults living with permanent mental disability.
  • Maintaining a food store of non-perishable healthy food for those in need paid for by donations.
  • 24/7 bread bank supplied by local bakeries and collected by volunteers.
  • Vegetable garden on site for community involvement and produce for the food store.
  • Honey bees maintained in the onsite garden to produce honey for sale.
  • Parish facilities welcome community self-help cultural events and educational programs.
