About us

Under the care of the Augustinians, we are committed to expressing our faith in action: community building, inclusiveness, acceptance and joy in our liturgies and social activities, and through parish ministries, serving a diverse urban population.

St Joseph’s Church and St Thomas Aquinas Church are the centres of sacramental and liturgical activity in the parish.

The Parish Centre, adjacent to St Joseph’s Church, is the administrative and social hub of the parish where facilities are also available for hire.

As a commitment to its principle of social justice and care for the disadvantaged, the parish supports emergency housing units, a crisis shelter for short-term accommodation and other outreach services in the parish and wider community.

The Parish is also committed to the welfare and safety of children and the vulnerable.

PARISH VISION

We the people of the Catholic parish of South Yarra aspire to be a community one in mind and heart on the way to God, where we are supported and sustained by the Gospel of Jesus through personal prayer and celebration of the Eucharist, where we are encouraged to share our gifts and talents in the service of others in the wider community, where we remain open and responsive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and seek to draw others to God’s love through our openness and hospitality.

We undertake as a fundamental responsibility the safety and well being of children and young people.

The Parish of South Yarra acknowledges the Wurundjeri (Woi Wurrung) and Boonwurrung (Bunerong) people of the East Kulin nations who are the Traditional Custodians of the land. We also pay our respect to the Elders past, present and emerging and extend that respect to other indigenous Australians who are present in our community
