The Barry Library relocated

libraryRecently the Barry Library collection of books and resources was moved to the Archive Room at the other end of the second floor corridor and additional books from Fr. John Barry’s personal collection have been added. The library remains open to all visitors during Parish business hours. The vacated space on the north of the building, the old school library, is now called the Gables and is available for short or long-term hire for meetings, gatherings, classes and the like (see below for full details).

The Parish Centre

The Parish Centre offers a great range of spaces and rooms for single, occasional and permanent hire all year round. Whether you are planning a party, workshop, dinner dance, school retreat or corporate event our beautiful heritage buildings, gorgeous gardens and competitive hire rates are sure to impress.

Centrally located at 30 Fitzgerald Street in South Yarra, we are close to public transport (both tram & train) and are just a stone throw away from the Jam Factory and Chapel Street shopping precinct.

Hire Facility details:

The Great Hall is a grand space used for school retreats, rehearsals, parties, a dinner dance, fundraiser, children’s activities, corporate functions, personal and professional development. Dimensions: 10 m x 20 m (approximately). Capacity: 150-200 people seated and 200 plus standing room only. Features: polished timber floor, lectern, tables and chairs, heating, pedestal fans, built in sound system with microphone, white board, projector and screen, direct access to the Parish Playground and an adjoining kitchenette with a fridge, double sink and instant hot water urn. Located close to toilets and Catering Kitchen. Wheelchair and pram accessible. Availability: Available for hire on Monday’s and Tuesday’s during the day, Friday & Saturday evenings from 6pm – 11pm and on Sunday’s before 3pm.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

The Meeting Room is a great space to hold a group session, self-help group, training session or celebration of any type. Dimensions: 7.5 m x 9 m (approximately). Capacity: 50-60 people seated and 60 plus standing room only. Features: linoleum floors, lectern, tables and chairs, heating, pedestal fans, white board, projector and screen, and direct access to the Catering Kitchen with a fridge, freezer, dish washer, double sink, hand basin, 2 microwaves, pie warmer and an instant hot water urn. Wheelchair and pram accessible. Availability: Available for hire most days and evenings.                                                                                                                                                                                               

The Barry Library is a cosy light filled space that is ideal for an intimate class, meeting or small group activity. Dimensions: 10 m x 7 m (includes library shelving and display desks). Capacity: 5 – 15 people comfortably.  Features: Carpeted floor, lectern, tables and chairs, heating, fans and air conditioning, a white board, projector and screen plus a private enclosed veranda area with a kitchenette and dining space. No wheelchair or pram access after hours. Toilet located close by downstairs. Availability: Available for hire most days and in the evening until 11pm.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

The Board Room is an ideal space for a small to medium group meetings, training session or presentation. Dimensions: 5 m x 7 m. Capacity: Up to 10 people seated comfortably at board table with additional seating available against the walls also. Features: multimedia television, heating, air conditioning, whiteboard facilities and direct access to an enclosed veranda and kitchenette with a fridge, double sink, microwave and instant hot water urn. Wheelchair and pram accessible. Availability: Available for hire most days and in the evening until 11pm.                                                                                                                                                                                               

The Gables is a bright attractive space used for school retreats, large group meetings/training sessions, fundraisers, children’s activities, corporate functions and classes. Dimensions: 13 m x 7.5 m. Capacity: 70-80 people comfortably. Features: carpeted floor, lectern, tables and chairs, heating and air conditioning, white board, portable projector, screen and audio speakers, adjoining toilets and kitchenette with dishwasher, microwave and an instant boiling water urn. Wheelchair and pram accessible. Availability: Available for hire most days and in the evening until 11pm.                                                                                                                                                                          

The Catering Kitchen  is a spacious commercial kitchen that is centrally located to the Great Hall and the Meeting Room. Dimensions: 4.4 m x 5 m. Capacity: Up to 6 people comfortably. Facilities: a 900mm gas stove with hotplates and range, 2 microwaves, a pie warmer, a double refrigerator, a freezer, double sinks, a hand wash basin, dish washer, instant boiling water urn and plenty of work space with a large island bench also. Wheelchair and pram accessible. Availability: Available for hire most days and in the evening until 11pm.

  • Onsite parking for approximately 25 vehicles with a further 500 spaces located close by at the Jam Factory on Chapel Street
  • We are walking distance from the South Yarra Railway Station and Chapel Street Tram stops
  • Our fabulous outdoor children’s playground is easily accessible for all, fully fenced and offers a separate grassed area for activities
  • Disabled access is available to all of our facilities
  • We have Modern bathroom facilities with separate disabled, men’s and women’s toilets, plus a built in baby change table
  • External catering can be arranged upon request
  • Set up/pack up and cleaning packages are available for an additional charge.
